Welcome to the New and Improved UDubDish!

The previous authors of the blog moved on, so after the blog has had a five month hiatus it is now back with new authors.  So what are the new plans for the blog?

There are a lot of great sites and message boards out there for information on the Huskies, but there isn't really one place that brings it all together.  Hopefully UDubDish can become that.  SB Nation is a great platform for building a community and I'm hoping we can replicate some of the success that other blogs have had on this network.

The focus here will be mostly on the Husky football and basketball programs, but at times we'll cover other sports in the program when things come up that are worth mentioning.  You should expect to find the basic things like game previews, game threads, summaries, and recruiting news.  But I'm also hoping to take things a step further and provide some commentary and break things down a little bit more than what you'll find elsewhere.

As for me, and who am I exactly? Well, I'm a recent UW graduate and a lifelong Husky fan. I grew up in Tacoma and can remember watching the Huskies play in the three consecutive Rose Bowl games on TV as a kid.  And, of course, since going to the UW I've followed Husky sports closely and become a diehard fan.

There is another contributor to the blog who will be covering Husky recruiting.

Here's a message he wanted me to include here:
"This is "thefranchise" here, I'll be breaking down the latest dawg prospects both football and basketball for all you dawg fans and giving you the skinny on who the up-and-comers are as well as any news on verbals and recruiting visit info. Lookin' forward to crackin' the smack and talkin' dawgs.  Go Huskies!!!"

This is most definitely an exciting time for Husky athletics as the football team is on the rise again and the basketball program is restocked and ready to contend for the Pac-10 again.  We're both excited to join the SB Nation and create a community of Husky fans.  Go Huskies!

- Andrew

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, folks. We've been ultra-mega busy the last few weeks.

To combat this little program of not posting as much as we'd like, we have a new U-Dub Dish writer!

Welcome Chris Scott, who will be posting under the name Topher Thompson. He's a die-hard Husky fan -- like all of us -- and will be posting as much as he can.

Now with a helping hand, we'll try to keep The Dish updated daily with this being your main forum to cheer on the Dawgs. And when you want to break your table because the Huskies can't close a game, we'll support you...we've actually had to do some refurnishing around here, if you catch our drift...

So welcome Topher to the UDD community and treat him nice. You'll be seeing (and reading) lots of him around here!

CFB Awards: Blogger Edition
By Zachls5 Section: News

Our good friends from the south over at Rocky Top Talk are doing wonderful things.

RTT is organzing blogger awards with all sorts of categories. With the college football season all but over (really, who gives two shits about the Meineke Car Care Bowl?), what better time to recognize some of the finest college football bloggers out there?

So head over to Rocky Top Talk to vote and nominate some of your favorites. We haven't looked at the categories all that closely, but we imagine U-Dub Dish will sweep the awards ceremony. If we don't, we'd cast our vote for The MZone for just about everything.

A sit-down with The Wiz
By Zachls5 Section: News
Posted on Thu Dec 07, 2006 at 01:32:00 AM EDT

We had a chance to sit down with our pal Dawizofodds, who runs the great college football site, The Wizard of Odds, "A College Football Site for Winners," and has a wealth of knowledge for the college game. Strap on those seatbelts...

1. The rundown:

Name: Dawizofodds
Age: Classified
Location: Parts Unknown
Occupation: Journalist
Favorite pro or college team: Temple. Or maybe Duke. Actually, I'm a huge Buffalo Bulls fan. OK, throw Stanford in the mix, or Florida International (is this a football team or an airport?) ... Any team that is a big loser. I love losers because without losers there wouldn't be winners. Losers make better stories. There's nothing quite like covering one, especially when it all starts to unravel. Those are moments to cherish.
Links to your favorite all-time posts you've written. (3-5):
I've had over 1,500, so this is tough. In the past month:
-The brilliant move by Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema that exploited the stupid 3-2-5-e rule designed to shorten games.
-Butt, (cq) how can you not like Erin Andrews?
-A streaker at a Montana game.
- A USC Song Girl celebrating after Texas scored in the Rose Bowl.
-Plus all the 3-2-5-e stuff that put the site ahead of the curve and the recent coverage of coaching moves.
Time per day spent blogging and perusing the blogosphere? Too much. Too much. Am considering detox. In fact, two men with a straitjacket just knocked on my door.

2. Take us through a typical day of blogging for you.

A typical "day" starts at 1 a.m. I put on the vampire garb and start surfing. Currently, I put in 3-4 hours a night or as long as I can go. The idea is to be the first site with all the news.

Readers, it's your time to shine.

We're holding open auditions for a second (or second and thrid) writer here at The Dish.

Work has been taking up our time lately and we don't have the fire power to keep this site kicking as much ass as it should.

So, if you're interested in being a UDD writer (we're looking for you to post 7-15 stories/commentary a week) please fire an email our way, as you, yeah you, can be the next great UDD writer.

National Signing Day
By Zachls5 Section: News
Posted on Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 02:10:01 AM EDT

As the headline so clearly says (the beauty of a good headline), yesterday was National Signing Day. (Well, guess the headline doesn't mention anything about yesterday, but you get the idea).

Two big-time basketball players headline the list of UW signees. Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Justin Holiday are your newest Washington hoopsters. Both are forwards, both are big (Bryan-Amaning is 6-9, Holiday 6-6) and both are from out of the area.

Bryan-Amaning hails from Surrey, England where we didn't know they play basketball. He went to prep school in Connecticut last season. Holiday is from Hollywod, Calif. and is the older brother of Jrue Holiday -- a touted guard who already has offers from UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State.

Getting two big recruits from out of the area just shows how far the Huskies program has come under the leadership of coach Lorenzo Romar. Just a few years ago, recruits like this would have likely passed over Washington and gone to more defined, bigger-name programs.

The Washington basketball program continues to move in the right direction and Bryan-Amaning and Holiday will be a nice start to the Class of '07.

Note: Check out GoHuskies for more UW signees and look for our piece in Friday's Seattle Times about Shorecrest High School QB Pierce Rankin who will play baseball for the Dawgs next season.

The first rule of the Wisconsin band bus...
By Zachls5 Section: News
Posted on Thu Oct 12, 2006 at 03:21:15 PM EDT

...is that YOU DON'T talk about the Wisconsin band bus.

So it is. Those wacky Badgers did something so "boorish and patently offensive" that it can never be spoken of, and warranted probation for the band.

UW-Madison is not releasing details on what happened during the bus trip to the Sept. 23 game against the University of Michigan, but it most be beyond messed up.

Perhaps we could have a contest to speculate what actually happened...don't feel obliged to keep it PG.

Make it happen in the comments.

Tui article

We wrote a feature on Mariner High School QB Tyler Tuiasosopo, which can be found here.

Tyler is the younger brother of Huskies linebacker Trenton and cousins with Marques, Matt and Zach.

Fun story.

(We'll get more Beaver [news] later today).

If you've been following the private life of U-Dub Dish, you know that we just moved back to Seattle from the Bay Area.

We've been back at work at The Seattle Times and that's where the bulk of our posts have been coming from. We still are without interntet at our new apartment and won't get it until Wednesday.

Here's the thing, we will be out all day Monday and Tuesday and won't be able to get a post up. Yeah, we're pissed too.

But we'll come back at you Wednesday with some good stuff as we prepare for the UCLA game.

To get you guys talking more -- we want more comments by the way, dammit! -- we'll leave you with some discussion questions. (Yeah, kinda like in school).

-How many games can UW win?

-How many would you be happy with?

Is a bowl game out of reach?

You guys discuss that and we'll look forward to the answers. See you Wednesday.

Back to the Emerald City

Those who know our story, well, that's nice. But our deal is this: We went to school at U-Dub for the last four years...four of the greatest years of our life.

We just graduated in the Spring and headed home to the Bay Area for the Summer. Well, now we're heading back to Seattle to work at The Seattle Times doing our gig of covering high school sports. (We thought Skyline was dangerous, by the way, but those boys from Bellevue don't mess around).

But here's the catch: we'll be driving this morning to Portland for the night, then up to Seattle on Sunday. We'll be crashing with a friend in Seattle for a few days until we find a new place to call home.

So what's this mean for you? Really not much. But our posting may be sparce the next few days. We'll have some internet access, but not much. So we'll see what we can get up until we're settled in a few days...or weeks if we don't get our act together.

But keep checking back here the next few days for updates, and use the thread to discuss how things are going in Norman. We'll try to find the game on the radio.

We really appreciate those who have been reading the last few months and especially those commenting. Keep it up, folks. You're doing great!

We have a bunch of cool stuff in the works for The Dish and some interesting Q&A's we're trying to line up. We also intend to keep getting up multiple posts a day, because we know you like that when you're bored at work, trying to decide if you can go on with a standard 9-5 for one more day.

Please chat it up in the comments section for the gameday thread and we'll be back with you shortly.

And above all else, Go Dawgs!

Join us tomorrow
By Zachls5 Section: News
Posted on Fri Sep 01, 2006 at 09:15:34 PM EDT

Tomorrow will be a big day for the Huskies, football fans everywhere, and U-Dub Dish. It's the kickoff to the Huskies' 2006 campaign, which (fingers crossed) should be a good one.

For the game, we'll have an open thread up here at The Dish. What's an open thread? Well, it's basically a forum for you to come and hang out at if you're near a computer during the game.

So, if the Huskies score, you would leave a comment in the comments section like, "Yes! Go Dawgs."

Another commenter may say, "It's a great day to be a Husky."

If Isaiah throws a TD, a female commenter may get carried away and say, "I want to have your baby!"

But then SJSU may score, or force a turnover, or a make a big play. Then you would say, "&#@$."

Someone else may say, "#&@!."

We even may comment and say, "@$%#."

Get it? Good.

The open thread is for you to feel like you're watching the game in a sports bar or something. (Feel free to be drinking while commenting...there's no law against that as far as we know). We'll be here chiming in in the comments section with you and we look forward to rooting on the Huskies together.

With that said, how will you know which post is the open thread? That's pretty simple.

We'll have a catchy title like, "Open Thread" or "Gameday Thread, San Jose State." Like we said, catchy.

So join us in rooting for the great Washington Huskies tomorrow. Don't forget to wear your purple.

See ya tomorrow!

Go Dawgs
