The Huskies take on #16 Texas A&M (4-0) tonight in the semi-finals of the N.I.T. Preseason Tournament. The Aggies will be a formidable opponent as the 4.5 point favorite heading into this one. True Freshman DeAndre Jordan will be tough to shut down on the post. He's 7'0", 245 and making over 90% of his shots. That is a 5 inch advantage over Brockman. Junior Josh Carter is also a strong perimeter shooter making 52% of his shots beyond the arch. Another note: the Aggies employ a motion offense, so they'll be running through the Huskies zone defense that they generally employ. It will be critical to pick up guys as they run through the zone. We've yet to face a clutch shooter like Carter and keeping tabs on him as assignments switch through the zone will be key.

LET'S GO HUSKIES!

Step up

The Dawgs need a big game out of somebody besides Brockman.  Jon cannot be the only offense for this team.  Its time for Quincy to show up offensively and start scoring double digits on a nightly basis.  Overton could solidify his starting job at the point with a good game tonight.  The Aggies definitely have the size adavantage, but the Dawgs have the nod on speed and have better athletes.

Washington is getting some national exposure tonight and hopefully they will take full advantage of it.  WHOSE HOUSE!!!!!!!!

All right... here we go!

Big chance for our Dawgs to step it up tonight and make a HUGE statement.

I'll be blogging the whole game.  So feel free to drop some comments of your own if anyone's around...

36-32 Dawgs at the Half

Halftime thoughts:

UW's speed has given them the edge so far.

Overton had some great moves.

But, the Aggies have held their own and battled back.  Watch for them to continue to dump the ball down low and make the Huskies stop them on the post.

Also, the Huskies need to take better care of the ball.  There were a few passes that ended up being turnovers just because of lazy passes and some that should have not been made in the first place.  This comes along with high-tempo basketball, but we shouldn't push things too much.

Down 9 with 2 minutes to play.

Looks like it is about over.

The Huskies went away from the post on offense in the second half and instead started shooting threes.  This is poor shot selection and missed opportunities for the Huskies down the stretch.  In a game like this, you play physical and try to win with our speed.  Instead, we took a crap shoot with the 3-ball.  Sure, if you make it is great.  But that is not a high percentage shot (and yes, I am calling out Wolfinger here).  Set up a play, work the ball around, and get the high percentage shot.  We did that in the first half and it worked.  Then we abandoned it for the "hot hand".  Not a winning strategy.
