Venoy is Qualified

Yesterday was a big day for Husky fans as Venoy Overton was officially cleared by the NCAA. Yes, just one day before classes started. There are a couple of big reasons why Venoy making it to Montlake are key:

  1. While Justin Dentmon appears to be stronger and ready for a bounce back year, it's not a guarantee. And after the struggles the team had last year at the point, Venoy will not only be a decent backup, he could take over if Justin continues to slide.

  2. Venoy is from Franklin High and played with Peyton Siva the last few years winning the 4A championship together in '06, they even live next door from one another. Now that Venoy is a Husky, we are no doubt one more step closer to landing Peyton who is by many accounts, the best prospect in WA for '09.

On the football side, I guess now we just have to wait for Devin Aguilar and Anthony Boyles. I'm bullish on Aguilar, not so sure on Boyles (who is living in his hometown in LA while he waits to be cleared). We all know we need receivers for the future to catch bombs from Locker, so hopefully they get qualified soon.

Very Good News

Getting Venoy in there and eligible is key.  I'm thinking he'll provide some depth at point guard, but probably won't start.  But, this is very good news because the Huskies are definitely better with a guard who has solid ball handling skills.

We shouldn't see the same issues they had at guard last season come up again given the depth they have at guard now.  Keep in mind too that Romar does not like to classify his guards as "point" or "shooting".  So, you're looking at a rotation of Dentmon, Appleby, Oliver, Morris, Overton, and Smith.  Plenty of depth there.

guard depth

True, with Spencer gone, I see them using more 3 guard sets too.
